After speaking with Darryl, his years of experience in the floor coating industry are immediately apparent. Very professional and knowledgeable in all types of residential and commercial floor coatings. My garage floors were professionally prepped for the epoxy coating by repairing all the concrete cracks and diamond grinding the entire concrete surfaces. Beautiful “Tuxedo” gray, black and white full broadcast flakes were embedded in the epoxy resin basecoat followed by a durable UV resistant clear Polyaspartic top coat. Being retired, the epoxy floor cost per square foot was a big factor. Having worked in construction and industrial maintenance for 45 years, I could have installed the epoxy garage floor myself. After considerable research, I decided against the DIY route. I was installing a car lift and needed an extremely durable long lasting floor. To do the job correctly, I would have needed to rent a commercial quality diamond concrete floor grinder and vacuum system. Grinding is essential for a long-lasting bond. DIY kits just pressure wash or acid etch the concrete slab. The Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield sold at Lowes or Home Depot is water based and doesn’t include nearly enough color flakes. Professionals use expensive high-quality solvent based 100% solids epoxy, because they need to guarantee their work against peeling or delaminating. I would also have needed some specialty tools such as the spiked shoes that pros use. Then factoring in the amount of time and labor that would be involved in repairing the concrete and installing the floor, I chose to get a professional epoxy installation with a warrantee against failure.
